Kora’s puppies are 6 weeks old!

It has been another big week for the puppies!

Kora is doing well! She is pretty much back on her pre-puppy routine and is enjoying walks, playtime, and plenty of lounging about the house. She has completed weaning her babies.

All of the puppies were bathed and blown dry for the second time this week. They all did very well. Their puppy fluff is filling out and they are becoming cuter by the day.

We hosted the Puppy Party on Sunday, and it was a blast! The puppies did great, and spent time both playing and napping. It is always so special  to watch both the adults and children interact so sweetly with our puppies as they meet them for the very first time! All but two of the puppies have been chosen by their families. Everyone got either their first or second choice, which was amazing! It was so enjoyable to meet everyone and we are confident that each family will be a wonderful forever home.

The puppies are in full teething mode, and are enjoying a variety of chew toys. They also got to experience carrots for the first time this week, which they loved. They have transitioned to dry puppy food, and are done nursing. They are drinking like champs and race each other to the water dish in the morning.

They are much more alert than they were last week, and they are playing with each other, pawing at things, and chewing on toys. They are making good use of their waggy-tails, and are delighted to hear each other growl and puppy yip during playtime. They are picking up speed and running when they chase each other around. We have taken them outside to play in the grass several times, and interact with them down at their level daily.

Their vision is still developing, and their eye color may also continue to change a bit. (By around 8 to 16 weeks old their vision should be fully mature for distance sight.) Their hearing is pretty well developed at this point.

The puppies have had their nails trimmed again this week.

We play a variety of radio stations for the puppies daily, and will continue sound stimulation; a series of recordings from farm animals to city traffic, and doorbells to party hubbub, as well as soothing classical music.

The puppies are doing very well with both Litter Box Training and Early Crate Training and have been good about keeping their floor clean and dry. We have begun early Night Training in the group crate this week in preparation for going home! They are spending more of their time awake and playing, and have progressed with potty training to the point where we have expanded their space to include the entire pen for a large play area. (See picture below.) We have also begun working on the very early stages of politely asking for attention by sitting calmly this week, and the puppies are doing well with it and making progress.

Last but not least, we have taken all the puppies for their well puppy visits at the vet! They whimpered some in the car on the way there, but in the vet’s office they looked around and sniffed at all the new smells, then fell asleep on the way home. Our vet was happy with the litter!
